Greensboro Piedmont Triad International Airport (GSO)

About GSO Airport
Commonly referred to as PTI, Piedmont Triad International Airport serves the greater Greensboro and Winston-Salem areas of North Carolina. The airport is a component of a larger, 4,000-acre campus that is home to over 50 companies. Together, $1 billion is circulated into the local community each year. 16 air carriers average 60 daily departures from PTI, including nonstop cities such as Atlanta, Chicago, Miami, Detroit and Charlotte. On average, 1.7 million passengers pass through the facilities each year.

Location
GSO is conveniently located in the center of North Carolina, advantageously situated at the hub of the Piedmont Triad region, between Greensboro and Winston-Salem. Over four million people live within a 90-minute drive of the airport, and can easily access PTI via I-40 and I-85.

History
In 1927, the airport began as a landing field before officially being claimed as Lindley Field with passenger service and mail service later that year.

After briefly closing during the Second World War, the airport reopened in 1937 and had two all-weather runways available. A brand new modern passenger terminal opened in 1958; two decades later it became apparent that a larger capacity would be needed, and a new airport terminal and complex was open 1982 under the name Piedmont Triad International Airport.
